Living Above The line or Below the Line

When we operate above the line, we take ownership, create accountability and accept responsibility for our actions. If we make a mistake, we accept responsibility for it and take appropriate action to rectify it.

This means you are rowing your own boat in in control of the direction you head, that is why you have an "OAR"

O = Ownership
A = Accountability
R = Responsibility

If you choose not to operate in any of the above points please just stay in bed

B = Blame
E = Excuses
D = Denial

When we operate below the line, it’s not our fault, everyone else is to blame, we have a number of excuses as to why things haven’t happened (or have happened) and we deny our responsibility for the situation.

Be Unembarrassable - Life Coaching

The term embarrassed reminds me of being “bare arsed” which is why we feel so uncomfortable about it. What if we could create a mindset of being unembarrassable? What if when we made a mistake we could laugh at it and move on, without carrying it around with us for days, weeks, months, years?

I encourage you, wherever you can, be unembarrassable. You will show others a different way to live and you won’t have the extra baggage to weighing you down.

Welcome to Being Human

We all make mistakes along the way, and when we do remember to say to yourself “Welcome to Being Human”. We don’t get it right all the time, and it’s when we are willing to take a risk, to try something new, to give it a go, that we get the greatest rewards. We stretch ourselves, we shift our paradigms and we make magic happen.

Life Coaching - Exellence Not Perfection

If we strive for perfection we will always fall short. Instead, what if we could aim for excellence, knowing that we can always take it another notch higher next time? Aiming for excellence doesn’t give you an excuse for not giving it 100%. What it does is remove the result of never being good enough. You know you can always improve it further, and this gives you permission to do your best now, and your best again next time.

Is there an Elephant in the Conversation?

An elephant in the conversation is when there is something unsaid coming between you and the other person.

Elephants are pretty big – so imagine that there is one sitting between you and the other person. Neither of you can communicate clearly because something is obviously in the way.

Sometimes the elephant is only visible to one person
Sometimes both can see it
Sometimes one person sees one elephant, and the other person sees a different one

Regardless of how many elephants or who can see them/it, unless acknowledged at a minimum, and at best addressed, it will continue to get in the way of good communication.

How To Apologise Effectivly

New York Times best-selling author Gary Chapman of The Five Love Languages, has teamed with counsellor Jennifer Thomas on this groundbreaking study of the way we apologize, discovering that it’s not just a matter of will - it’s a matter of how. Now you can identify your preferred languages of apology so that you can clear the way to healing and sustaining vital relationships – including those in the workplace.

The five effective apologies are:

Expressing Regret
Accepting Responsibility
Making Restitution
Genuinely Repenting
Requesting
Forgiveness

To find out your own language of apology, visit http://www.fivelovelanguages.com/30sec.html#love to take a 30 second quiz

Try it for yourself. Give your whole team this 30 second quiz and talk to them individually about the best apology style for them - but only if you are willing to follow through by using it with them from now on.

To find out how your whole team can benefit from this sort of information and much more like it, give us a call today on 03 476 7890 or email success@makingmagichappen.com and we’ll help you get started right away.
